Castle Ward Cllr David Fletcher has hit out at the Borough Council over the removal of a historic street lamp in Bedford’s York Street.
It was confirmed last week that the 100 year-old street lamp will be taken down.
Following the news, Cllr Fletcher told the Bedfordshire on Sunday:
‘I am appalled the council has made this decision in the face of protests from residents.
‘I made representations to the Council requesting answers and after being assured it was safe we find out it will be torn down.
‘Quite frankly it is vandalism. These are worth a lot of money and of great significance so I hope they are not just to be thrown away.’
