Bedford’s Tourist Information Centre (TIC) is ‘not fit for purpose’ and could do much more to promote the town, according to Cllr Stephen Moon.
The TIC is currently situated in the recently refurbished Bus Station but was previously based at the architecturally renowned old Town Hall at St Paul’s Square.
In its current location, there are concerns that the TIC is poorly signposted and provides inadequate information on local attractions and accommodation.
The Council’s Corporate Services Committee has now agreed to undertake a review of whether the TIC could be better placed elsewhere.
Cllr Stephen Moon, Chair of the Committee, told the Bedfordshire on Sunday:
‘The venue is inadequate; it is not fit for purpose. If we are serious about promoting Bedford we must provide a better tourism centre. It seems primarily designed to sell train tickets.
‘We have been able to agree to get a map put up in the TIC, but in order to generate investment and tourism in Bedford we must advertise what is available in the town.’
