On 8th November 2024, Wootton Conservative Councillor John Wheeler and Portfolio Holder for Health, Martin Towler held a positive meeting with the practice manager at Wootton surgery along with representatives from the Parish Council on the future of the healthcare facilities in Wootton.

Despite not being a priority for the Integrated Care Board (ICB) the Conservative Mayor and his cabinet alongside the Parish Council, have been actively pressing the ICB to address the urgent need for an upgraded GP surgery in Wootton.

To prepare the ground for the future surgery, Borough Council officers will be conducting a high-level feasibility study that will explore all options to ensure a GP surgery is delivered.

Mayor Tom Wootton and the Conservative cabinet have agreed a £9 million investment for GP surgeries across Bedford Borough and they are confident we will see spades in the ground in the coming future.

Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods & Communities: Health and Wellbeing, Councillor Martin Towler commented after the meeting,

“Real change starts when we have strong leadership that prioritises the needs of the community and is willing to get hands on.

I, the Mayor and Councillor John Wheeler are committed to making sure Wootton GP is a reality”

Councillor John Wheeler commented,

“Building a community isn’t about big promises, it’s about listening to our residents, taking action and providing solutions, even if the road ahead is challenging.

It is vital Wootton gets a proper GP surgery that provides adequate parking for practice employees and patients as well as surgery that is modern and capable of handling the expanding population here in Wootton.

Collectively all stakeholders are pulling out all the stops to make this a reality.”
