Cllr Anthony Boutall has presented a petition from residents of Marne Street and Beatrice Street in Kempston calling on Bedford Borough Council to turn their road into a one-way system.
The petition, which was signed by 43 people, cites concerns around road safety as necessitating a review. The road is deemed to be ill-suited to a two-way flow of traffic, particularly given the prevalence of on-street parking.
The signatories are also requesting demarcations showing where cars cannot park which will improve vehicle access.
An official consultation will now be undertaken to gauge the views of all affected residents.
Cllr Boutall said:
‘Having knocked on doors in Marne and Beatrice Streets for months before being elected, I heard many people share their common desire for a one-way system of traffic, being apparently better suited to the horseshoe shape of the roads. As such, I thought it would be helpful to compile and support a petition to make sure this option gets onto the Council’s agenda.
‘It is essential now to ascertain the views of all residents, including those who did not sign the petition. I am pleased, therefore, that a full consultation will be undertaken.’
