Bedford Borough’s Conservatives are taking decisive action to modernise the Council’s family services - delivering a 21% increase in support for families across the Borough this summer and launching a smarter, more responsive Family Hub provision.
The updated service is designed to bring help closer to where families live their daily lives. Whether it’s at libraries, schools, or community centres, by delivering services through these familiar spaces, the Council is making help more accessible, more responsive, and more relevant.
The expansion will increase the number of delivery points to 29 – including 7 Family Hubs, 4 pop-up locations, and 18 outreach sites across both urban and rural areas. In addition, two Community Link Workers are embedding support in local venues such as church halls, toddler groups, and schools – reaching families directly in the places they trust.
A brand-new Town Centre Family Hub is also set to open this summer, providing crucial support right in the heart of our Borough and delivering on the Mayor’s manifesto pledge to put families first.
This bold transformation is about prioritising people over premises - ensuring services are effective, efficient, and built around the needs of families.
Portfolio Holder for Families, Councillor Jane Walker commented,
“We are increasing support, extending our reach, and making our services work for every family in every corner of our Borough. While others play politics, we’re focused on what matters - giving children the best start in life and ensuring every parent knows where to turn for help, hope and opportunity.”
