Residents of Wootton are set to benefit from a brand new GP surgery as part of a £17 million investment across the Borough in local healthcare.
Following a decisive meeting with the NHS and local councillors, Mayor Tom and Councillor John Wheeler have secured a new site for the village’s surgery.
The surgery will relocate to a new facility built on Council owned land near the roundabout opposite Rumble’s Chip Shop, a location chosen to avoid disruption to current services as rebuilding on the existing site would have required a full closure - something Mayor Tom and Cllr Wheeler were determined to avoid.
The new surgery will feature modern facilities and ample parking, with a seamless transfer planned once construction is complete. The project is now on the NHS priority list, and the Council will work closely with both the NHS and the Parish Council to ensure the development meets local needs.
Mayor for Bedford Borough, Tom Wootton commented,
“This is a great example of how we can use Borough-owned land more effectively to support our communities, something previous Liberal Democrat leadership failed to do. By making the most of the assets we already have, we’re able to deliver much-needed facilities without unnecessary delays or disruption”
Councillor for Wootton and Kempston Rural, John Wheeler commented,
“This is a positive step forward for Wootton. Securing this new site means we can provide modern healthcare facilities while keeping the current surgery open throughout. It’s about putting local needs first and planning sensibly for the future.”
