Newnham Councillors John Mingay and Kristy Adams have received confirmation from the Borough Council that work on protecting the grass verges on Risborough Road will start in June or July of this year.
The grass verges along the whole of the road will be covered with ‘grasscrete’; a protective mesh that will prevent the grass from being churned up by vehicles. Cllr Mingay and Cllr Kristy Adams have contributed £5000 from their Council Ward Funds for the scheme to proceed.
Following the news, Cllr Mingay told the Bedfordshire on Sunday:
‘We did a survey a few years ago to find out what concerns people had. I expected to hear worries about crime and anti-social behaviour but what is really upsetting people is motorists bumping up the verges in their cars and damaging the grass. It was by far the most pressing issue.’
