The Borough Council’s Planning Committee has agreed changes proposed by David Wilson Homes to the development agreement for the settlements at Great Denham and West Kempston.
Under the development agreement, known as a section 106 agreement, David Wilson Homes is obliged to make investments in the local community in exchange for the grant of permission to build new homes. The original section 106 agreement was finalised in 2007 but David Wilson Homes argued that the development would not be viable going forwards due to financial constraints, which gave rise to the need for changes.
Following negotiations with parties including Great Denham Parish Council and Kempston Rural Parish Council, proposals were put forward to the Planning Committee’s meeting on the 22nd September and subsequently agreed.
Kempston Rural Ward Councillor Mark Smith said:
‘It is unfortunate that David Wilson Homes’ financial contribution has been reduced but on the other hand it is positive that important local amenities will proceed such as the Great Denham Community Hall and the Country Park.
‘The parish councils have worked tirelessly in negotiating with David Wilson Homes and the Council and deserve a lot of credit for securing the best deal for the area going forwards.’
