Wixams and Wilstead Ward
  • Borough Councillors

Graeme Coombes has represented Wixams and Wilstead Ward, covering the historic village of Wilstead and the new development of Wixams, since 2011. He is also Leader of the Conservative Group.

When first elected in 2011, Graeme fought the Liberal Democrat Mayor's plan for a landfill site to be situated right next to Wixams, demanded improved broadband speeds in the locality and called for easier access to basic GP healthcare services for the residents of Wixams and Wilstead. He currently sits on a large number of committees and boards which include the Appointments Committee, Bedford Schools' Forum (Observer), Community Infrastructure Levy Committee, Executive, General Purposes Committee, Treasury Management Advisory Panel, Trustees of the House of Industry Estate Management Committee, Wixams Joint Development Control Committee.

After the 2023 election, Graeme joined the executive as Portfolio Holder for Finance & Corporate Services.

In his day job, Graeme works in the conference and events industry.

Graeme says: 'Wixams is a new, growing and dynamic place to be, with a vibrant and diverse group of residents. Wilstead is a beautiful, historic village with many longstanding inhabitants who have kept a real village feel to the area despite the big changes happening nearby. It is a great honour for me to represent the area I live in.'
